AHIMA Foundation Launches Thought Leaders Lecture Series

The AHIMA Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of an important program: Thought Leaders lectures, an exciting new initiative that presents an opportunity for HIM professionals to engage with industry leaders about the field's cutting-edge topics. EachThought Leaders lecture is recorded and made publically available online through a special Web series for students, practitioners, and others interested in the health information field.

Each Thought Leaders lecture will be available online through a special Web series. The most recent lecture took place at the 2010 AHIMA Convention and Exhibit in Orlando, FL, on September 28. Our featured speaker was Peter Salgo, MD, healthcare futurist and medical crisis expert, who addressed the topic of “The Future of Healthcare.”

The first of the Thought Leaders lecture featured Susan Dentzer, editor-in-chief of Health Affairs and on-air analyst on health with “PBS NewsHour” discussed “Driving Research Results into Practice.”.

About the AHIMA Foundation

The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Foundation improves health information management by supporting the people, research and resources that advance the HIM profession.

Through scholarships and grants for HIM students, professional education and advancement programs, research, and a comprehensive HIM resource library, the AHIMA Foundation takes the lead in advancing the HIM industry.

There are many meaningful opportunities to give and support the AHIMA Foundation initiatives. Among them include donating to the Annual Fund, Named Scholarship Funds, or Tribute Gifts.

  • A gift to the Annual Fund supports Scholarships, Triumph Awards, the Foundation Library, Faculty Development, the Research Training Program, the Faculty Development Institute and Dissertation Research Assistance.

  • With a Named Scholarship Fund, your gift will be designated solely for scholarships to help educate the next generation of HIM professionals

  • Tribute Gifts are made In Honor of or In Memory of someone special.

The AHIMA Foundation also accepts donations through corporate matching gift programs. If your employers match philanthropic donations it is an easy way to help the AHIMA Foundation double donations to the scholarship program in 2010. Everyone wins when a donation is doubled, and matching gift programs enable that to happen. Check with your employer about a matching gift program, and if they need extra help from the Foundation to secure a matching gift, please contact Bonnie Aguda at (312) 233-1175 or bonnie.aguda@ahimafoundation.org.
